Food and Water

The basis of our diet will predominantly be high calorie and low weight freeze dried meals (similar to army rations) – we are planning to have four meals per day. We will also take a mix of snacks – chocolate, nuts, biscuits etc – to provide us with energy between meals whilst we are rowing. It is estimated we will burn more than 7,000 calories each day – approximately three times more than the normal average for an active male/female.

The boat is equipped with its own water maker which is able to distill sea water to potable water. Occasionally previous ocean rowers have had the misfortune of their water maker breaking down, thus ending their attempt. We will carry a spare hand powered water maker to avoid the potential risk of a premature end to our own attempt. We will also undertake a full training course in the maintenance and repair of the water maker.
